However, strictly speaking, this is not the best approach to maintenance. When it comes to maintenance, what we really have in mind is preventive maintenance. This type of maintenance involves activities designed to prevent things like appliances, house features, or equipment from breaking down. If preventive maintenance is not done, you'll eventually have to pay for extensive repairs or even replacement when someone breaks down or no longer functions properly.
Plenty of problems can come up when it comes to homeownership. Even if the best materials are used and you stay on top of required maintenance work, urgent concerns can still crop up. These include the following:

In North Carolina, all newly-constructed wells have to be tested by the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health or a certified laboratory. This must be done prior to using the well as a source of drinking water. The tests are done to check for bacterial and chemical contaminants. They should also be conducted within 30 days of the well's completion.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) website lists certain activities or situations that can contaminate well water. This includes floods. Another problem, surface run-off, often carries pollutants through the soil that seep into underground water supplies. A good example of this is rainwater that washes off of parking lots, driveways, and roadways. Other causes of well contamination include farming or agricultural activities, the erosion of mineral deposits, toxic spills, waste decomposition, construction activities, storage tank leakage and landfills, industrial waste and discharges directed toward surface waterways, and the injection of waste products underground.
